The “Psych-Spread China” lecture series is one of the three flagship events developed by the School of Psychology at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, aiming to promote deep integration between excellent traditional Chinese culture and modern psychology, and to explore the construction of a psychology disciplinary system with Chinese characteristics for the new era.

In this lecture, Professor Wang Xiaotian systematically reviewed cultural value models from scholars such as Gu Hongming, Lin Yutang, Geert Hofstede, and Clyde Kluckhohn, focusing on core issues of culture and decision-making. Professor Wang also discussed the decision-making wisdom embedded in traditional Chinese culture by integrating classic theories such as Confucian ethics, game theory, and the framing effect. Furthermore, he provided a forward-looking analysis of the challenges and opportunities facing cultural psychology in the age of artificial intelligence and originally proposed the “Cultural Life History Theory” along with related validation.

During the interactive session, Professor Wang engaged in in-depth discussions with online audiences on topics such as delay discounting, the impact of AI on adolescent development, the boundaries of human logic, and aesthetic education. The discussion atmosphere was vibrant. Professor Wang Xiaotian’s report not only demonstrated his profound expertise in the fields of cultural psychology and decision-making research but also provided online listeners with new perspectives on understanding the relationship between culture and decision-making.
